What is Feng Shui??

What is Feng Shui

What is Feng Shui?  Simply put, it is an ancient art and science that was developed by the Chinese more than 3,000 years ago.  It is an intricate body of knowledge which if practiced properly will assure a person of good health and good luck.

Feng Shui is made of two words.  The first is wind while the second is earth.  His teachings are based on Taoist visions and understanding nature in the belief that the land is alive and full of energy.  This in turn can either make the kingdom successful or lead it to its downfall.

Apart from water and wind, Feng Shui is influenced by the theory of 3 other elements which are wood, fire and metal.  It is this that also guides Chinese astrological science including age, date of birth and year as well as color, season, direction and planets.  The main tools for Feng Shui are compass and Ba-Gua.

The Ba-Gua is an octagonal shaped network containing the I Ching symbol which is the ancient fortune teller on which it is based.  People who believe in Feng Shui say that those who know Bagua from their home will be able to understand certain areas of their life.

The feng shui compass is also called lo-pan.  It is used to access deeper information about a site or building.  It consists of a band of concentric rings arranged around a magnetic needle.  "Lo" means "everything" and "Pan" means "bowl", which can be interpreted as the key to the mystery of the universe.

Over the years, several different feng shui schools have emerged.  If you are able to master the basic level, it is said that you will begin to see powerful results that can benefit you both at home and in business.

Those who practice Feng Shui see it as a double edged sword as it can be both productive and destructive.  In a productive cycle, fire produces earth which produces metal which produces metal which produces metal which produces metal which results in water which produces wood and that which is fire which produces which which produces wood which produces wood and again

In this destructive cycle of earth destroying water destroying fire destroying metal and then destroying wood.  To give you an idea what all this is, say you were born in the year of fire.  Too much water in the house is bad because it destroys fires.

On the other hand, if you put a lot of d'cor wood in your house it will be good because the wood makes fire.  Besides, experts say that you will be more prosperous if you sleep on the south side of the house or apartment.  But the common man Joe didn't have time to understand that.

This is why many people today consult with Feng Shui experts when they are building their office or home.  By being able to have someone who understands this cycle, harmony and productivity are achieved.

So what is Feng Shui?  For those who don't believe, there is only one way to ensure that you will have good luck.  As for the people who take it seriously, that is what creates the essence of life around us.  There must always be a harmonious balance between these elements so that you can live a healthy and meaningful life.
